The Centus Wellness Initiative was launched in 2009. The Corporation for National & Community Service/ AmeriCorps funded a planning process for organizing faith congregations to plan and implement wellness programs based on use of existing resources and with the intention of eventually impacting surrounding neighborhoods.
Seven congregations signed on and have become Centus Wellness Partners. Centus developed an online survey that captured individual notions of wellness and assessed individual needs and interests related to congregational support of wellness activities. The survey was conducted at the congregational level. Over 1,100 people took the survey, a clear indication that wellness is of interest in faith communities.
